The Google Pixel Fold was officially announced on May 10, 2023, with preorders opening on the same day. Shipping for the device was scheduled to begin in June 2023. The device is identified by canonical model numbers G9FPL and G0B96, with GOB96 specifically noted in the Japan network-model line.

The Pixel Fold features a mirror-polished, multi-alloy steel hinge designed for fluid motion across a 180-degree range. The exterior is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, while the internal folding display utilises Ultra Thin Glass with a protective plastic layer.
